EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INTERIOR DESIGN
01
What does an interior architect do?
An interior designer develops holistic design concepts for private and commercial interiors. Their work involves analysis, design, optimising floor plans, developing material and colour schemes, lighting design, and overseeing the implementation. The aim is to create a harmonious, functional and durable space.
02
When do you need an interior architect?
Working together makes sense for new builds, conversions, renovations or when existing spaces need to be reimagined. Even with complex floor plans, limited space or specific requirements, professional planning ensures clarity and quality.
03
Do you work for private and commercial clients?
Yes. The work covers private residential spaces as well as offices, medical practices and smaller commercial projects. The design approach is tailored to each project’s specific use, context and budget.
04
Do you also handle the planning of smaller projects?
Yes. Smaller projects or specific areas, such as individual rooms, floor plan revisions or concept studies, are also possible. The scope of the collaboration is defined on a project-by-project basis.
05
How much does interior architecture planning cost?
The costs depend on the scope, complexity and service phases required for the project. Fees are typically charged as a flat rate or on an hourly basis. A transparent quote will be provided following the initial consultation.
06
Is there a free initial consultation?
Yes. During an initial, non-binding consultation, we will discuss your requirements, the general circumstances and the options available. This consultation forms the basis for a personalised quote.
07
Do you also handle the site management?
Yes. We oversee the construction work and coordinate the entire building site, from the preparatory stages right through to the handover. This includes drawing up construction schedules, liaising with specialist planners and tradespeople, and carrying out quality checks during the build.
08
Do you work with any specific companies or tradespeople?
We have a network of trusted specialist partners. We can also work with tradespeople or companies specified by the client.
09
How long does an interior architecture project take?
The duration depends heavily on the scope of the project and the extent of the work involved. Conceptual work may take a few weeks, whilst refurbishments or large-scale projects may take several months – including planning and implementation.

SPATIAL DESIGN
01
What is meant by spatial design?
Spatial design derives from the English word ‘space ’ and focuses on the design and experience of spaces. It is an interdisciplinary field and an interface between interior design, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, digital technology and virtual reality. At its core, it is always concerned with how people perceive, use and experience spaces.
02
What is the difference between spatial and interior design?
Spatial design deals not only with physical spaces, but also with hybrid and digital spaces. The focus is much more on the overall spatial experience and on how people perceive, use and emotionally experience spaces. Sensory perception and the atmospheric impact of a space are key starting points in spatial design.
03
For which types of spaces is spatial design suitable?
At atelier a;nou, our work in the field of spatial design focuses primarily on indoor and outdoor spaces, urban and landscape settings, exhibitions, pop-ups and exhibition stands. We also revitalise unused or underused transitional and transit spaces.
04
What is meant by interim and transit space?
Interim spaces are situated between clearly defined main areas; they connect or separate spaces and serve as meeting places. Examples include courtyards and entrance areas. Transit spaces, on the other hand, are clearly defined circulation areas and serve to connect different spaces, such as stairwells and general circulation areas.
05
Are projects also carried out digitally or in a hybrid format?
Yes. Spatial design concepts can be implemented in physical, digital or hybrid spaces. Virtual 3D models, visualisations or immersive installations enable the integration of different media and realities.
06
How long does a spatial design project take?
The duration of a project depends on its scope. Smaller projects or the development of concepts may take a few weeks, whilst complex interior or exterior design projects and their implementation may take several months.
07
Who is supervising the implementation on site?
Since we at atelier a;nou take an interdisciplinary approach and operate at the intersection of various disciplines, we guide the project from the design phase through to completion. We ensure that the design, functionality, and atmosphere are developed under one roof and can be implemented exactly as planned.
08
What does a spatial design project process look like?
A spatial design project begins with an analysis of the space and its potential. This is followed by the development of a concept, which is then refined and visualised in a subsequent stage. Finally, atelier a;nou supports the project through to its implementation and completion.
AND FINALLY
BRANDING & GRAPHIC DESIGN
01
What is meant by branding and graphic design?
Branding and graphic design describe the holistic process by which a brand is strategically developed and visually designed. The aim is to give a brand a clear identity and make it emotionally engaging. Graphic design translates the brand strategy into a consistent visual identity.
02
Why is branding so important for businesses?
Branding ensures that a company is clearly perceived and recognised. It builds trust, strengthens customer loyalty and clearly sets the brand apart from the competition. Strong branding conveys professionalism and credibility across all channels.
03
What does corporate identity include?
Corporate identity encompasses a brand’s entire self-image and how it presents itself to the outside world. This includes visual design, brand values, the tone of communication, and the brand’s behaviour. It ensures that the brand’s identity and character are conveyed consistently.
04
What services does branding and graphic design include?
Branding and graphic design involves the development of logos, colour schemes, typography and design elements. In addition, print and digital media such as business stationery, promotional materials and social media graphics are designed. All these elements follow a consistent design concept.
05
What is the process for a branding and graphic design project?
A branding project begins with an analysis of the brand, the target audience and the competition. Building on this, a brand strategy is developed, which is then translated into visual elements. The end result is a clearly defined design system that can be used flexibly.
06
For which businesses is professional branding worthwhile?
Professional branding is beneficial for businesses of all sizes, regardless of industry or stage of development. Startups in particular benefit from clear positioning, while established companies can refine or modernize their brand. A professional brand identity strengthens a company’s long-term success.
07
What is the difference between a logo and branding?
The logo is a key visual element, but only one part of branding. Branding encompasses the brand’s overall image and strategic direction. It influences how customers perceive and experience the brand.
08
How does graphic design support brand perception?
Good graphic design conveys a brand’s values, emotions and personality at a glance. It ensures clarity, recognisability and a professional impression. As a result, the brand remains firmly in the minds of the target audience.
09
How long does it take to develop a brand?
The duration of a branding project depends on its scope and complexity. Typically, the process takes several weeks, from strategic planning to the final design. A thorough development process pays off in the long run.
10
Can an existing brand identity be redesigned?
Yes, existing brands can be strategically developed further through rebranding or redesign. The core of the brand remains intact, whilst its visual identity and communication are updated to reflect current trends. This is particularly useful in the context of growth, new target audiences or strategic changes.
