SPATIAL DESIGN
FROM BERN
WHAT DISTINGUISHES SPATIAL DESIGN FROM INTERIOR DESIGN?
Interior design and spatial design both deal with the design of spaces, but differ in their focus. Interior design focuses on the functional and aesthetic design, as well as the technical planning and implementation of interior construction projects.
Spatial design often considers spaces beyond individual buildings and combines architecture, design, technology, and sometimes digital or interactive elements. The most important difference, then, is that interior design primarily designs interior spaces, while spatial design conceives spatial experiences as a whole.

SPATIAL DESIGN BRINGS YOUR MESSAGE, PRODUCTS, AND BRAND TO LIFE IN A SPATIAL WAY, CREATING EXPERIENCES THAT LAST.
During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your preferences, needs, and the layout of the space. Based on this, we’ll develop an initial concept tailored precisely to your individual needs and the space.
HOW WE WORK:
PROCESS OF A PROJECT
IN SPATIAL DESIGN
Great design begins with a deep understanding of the client’s and users’ visions and goals. Through a structured process, your ideas are brought to life with precision and creativity.
01
Analysis & spatial potential
The project begins with an analysis of the spatial conditions. This includes studies and analyses of movement patterns, user needs, and the quality of the space. Based on this, we must identify where the potential lies—that is, what works in the use of the space and which elements should be repurposed or adapted. In this first step, we examine the spatial narrative, interaction, experience, and emotions within the space.
02
Concept
Based on this analysis and the identified spatial potential, initial ideas are developed. These initial ideas are then refined and further developed into a concept. This concept defines the layout of the space, its intended use, and the processes that take place within it. The focus is on a design that is needs- and user-oriented. The impact and perception of the space have a decisive influence on the design.
03
Development & visualization
In the next step, the foundation of this concept will be expanded upon and refined. This involves creating material and mood boards, defining colors, and developing a lighting concept. This is how the identity of the space is shaped. Visualizations serve as a decision-making tool to convey the character of the space on an emotional level. This allows temporary and permanent concepts to be presented, discussed, and tested in various scenarios.
04
Realization
In the final step, atelier a;nou ensures that the design concept is executed consistently and to the highest standards. The focus is on spatial qualities—from materials and lighting to functional and atmospheric design. We keep a close eye on every detail and see the project through to its final handover with design precision.
In addition to interior design, the studio also creates design solutions in the areas of spatial design, branding, and graphic design, particularly for companies and brand spaces.
