The most beautiful view of Solothurn – looking out over the Aare River, across the stunning old town, all the way to the Jura Mountains.

Thanks to a complete redesign of the interior architecture and the expansion of the bar to include a spacious lounge area, the Penthouse Bar at the H4 Hotel now caters to a diverse and general public. A former relaxation room, which was connected to the hotel’s existing wellness area, has been converted into a cozy lounge area.

The stylistic inspiration of St. Ursen Cathedral, which towers over Solothurn’s old town across the Aare, is incorporated into the design language and concept through classical elements. The double round arch connecting the two rooms, as well as the three arches lined with natural stone veneer and illuminated from behind, establish a visual connection to the cathedral through their design language.

On the 14.5-meter-long partition wall featuring the round arches, a custom-designed wallpaper showcases typical elements of Solothurn. “The omnipresent Öufi” and the cathedral are integrated into the illustration as landmarks and depicted through various interpretations – a piece of history transported into the present day.

The metal ceiling in the lounge area – featuring three-dimensionally shaped stainless steel panels with a water-themed relief – brings the Aare River up to the 7th floor of the hotel building and reflects it, creating the impression inside the space that you are standing right at the boat dock or in the harbor. If you’re lucky, you might even see the fishing boats in the reflection.
