The redesign of the Openyoga Studio in Bern has created a space that goes far beyond a mere functional exercise area. The goal of the project was to use a subtle color scheme and custom-designed carpentry to create an atmosphere that fosters retreat, mindfulness, and inner contemplation.

The color concept forms the emotional foundation of the space. Warm, earthy tones – ranging from soft natural white shades to muted green and terracotta accents – lend the surfaces depth and tranquility. The color-accented beams and wall surfaces subtly structure the open floor plan without dividing it. This creates a gentle sequence of spaces that conveys a sense of security while maintaining a feeling of spaciousness.

A defining design element is the ornamental wall relief, which acts as a calming focal point. Embedded in a warm circular surface, it sets a quiet accent with a spiritual feel and gives the room its identity without visually dominating it. Light and shadow highlight the sculptural structure and underscore the meditative mood.

The natural wood floor brings warmth and grounding to the space and forms a calm, lively contrast to the light-colored wall surfaces. Together with the soft, indirect lighting, this creates a gentle, almost floating atmosphere that makes the transition from everyday life to the practice noticeable.

Central to the studio’s functionality are the custom-built cabinetry fixtures. Open shelves for pillows and blankets, clearly organized compartments, and vertical racks for yoga mats ensure order and easy access. The fixtures are deliberately understated in design, blending naturally into the overall architectural scheme and reinforcing the studio’s serene character through their materials and precision. The coatroom solution also follows this principle: structured, integrated, and unobtrusive.

The result is a harmonious interplay of color, material, light, and craftsmanship. The Openyoga Studio offers not only space for movement but also a protected setting for stillness, focus, and mindful presence.
